Celebrating our Community
We want to first thank you for your dedication and commitment to our community. Without your efforts on the frontline of community response, Flint would not have made the significant advances that it has. The Hagerman Foundation community commitment over the past six years and our collective passion for our mission has never wavered, to brighten and improve the lives of future generations. Through collaboration, our vision has grown to support many local and regional non-profit partners. We will forever be proud of the work we’ve done together.
Our work, with your leadership and support, helped us award more than $17 million in over 110 awarded grants. Together we have made strides in moving Flint forward. We will forever be grateful for how this community embraced the foundation’s strategies of helping find new and innovative ways to address our challenges, making our community better for all, particularly the youngest among us.
In the essence of honoring the past and our collaborative work together, we wanted to inform you of the changes taking place with The Hagerman Foundation. At the end of July, 2020, The Hagerman Foundation will be transitioning its grantmaking through a donor advised fund held at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint under The Hagerman Foundation Fund. The Hagerman Foundation Fund looks onward to continuing to move Flint forward in partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

For nearly three years Weiss Advocacy Director Claudnyse Holloman has been an advocate for children. Recently named director of Priority Children as well, Holloman leads a team of staff and volunteers whose mission is to support children affected by abuse or human trafficking.- Date

A program at Ennis Center for Children is winning new attention after a university study showed marked improvement in a wide range of assessments for children in the program. Fostering Creativity is a free therapeutic arts program for foster children that features a variety of artistic classes, local artists and art therapists.- Date

It sat as a reminder of what used to be. It was Ralph J. Bunche Elementary School, a place where generations of Flint school children learned and played. Carved out from a corner of Max Brandon Park on the northside of Flint, the school has sat vacant for six years.- Date

Now located in the Dryden Building, GearUp Academy is an alternative high school built by innovators, volunteers, and community members to provide an educational option for students who struggle in more traditional settings. Enrollment in Mott Community College’s culinary arts program will be able to double — perhaps even triple — to as many as 600 students with the opening of its new home in downtown Flint. Every four months, a truck rolls up to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan packed with 300,000 diapers for families in need—and with nowhere else to turn for help buying diapers.
