“Arts are the Heart” is a series of themed music, art, creation stations and performers providing a consistent avenue of accelerating art and culture in downtown Fenton.
Put on by The Fenton Arts Council, “Arts are the Heart” is a great way to bring the community of Fenton together to celebrate the arts as well as the city’s revitalization.
In 2016, events took place on the first Friday of each month during the summer. The Arts Council created and organized a team of volunteers who were deeply passionate about exposing the residents of Fenton to the many wonderful avenues of art within the city. The Arts Council increased their visibility and awareness in addition to creating new partnerships with community organizations.
This year’s “Arts are the Heart” events take place on the third Friday May, through August. The series centers around transformation, and the Arts Council transforms the downtown area with three-foot fiberglass butterflies. Local businesses sponsored the cost of having the butterflies, displayed as part of the community exhibit and local artists painted them.
The butterfly represents the recent downtown Fenton transformation. A caterpillar emerges from the chrysalis and transforms into a beautiful butterfly. The City of Fenton has emerged from its chrysalis of growth and renewal, as a beautiful, charming city.
